In the fall of 2009, at the Growth Summit, Lynne Twist’s talk about The Soul of Money really moved me. A couple of highlights, in my words, not hers.
- Money is a means to make the difference you want to make. So is time. So is your life energy. Use your energy, your time and your money to contribute to the world as you want it to be, not for something future, but for now. You don’t need to wait until some future time when you’ve accumulated a certain amount. Do it now. This is very similar to what I wrote yesterday from Marshall Goldsmith. Live for now, not the future. It makes sense when you think about it, because the future never actually ever gets here. We always only have now.
- She says: “What you appreciate, appreciates.” In business we often say that what gets measured, improves. Same idea. Pay attention to the things that matter, the numbers that matter, the people that matter, and that attention will make a difference.
